We will take an in-depth look at two methods of constructing exterior double walls. The first will be an interior bearing wall with an exterior Larson truss as used on the certified Passivhaus and the "almost passive house.” The second will be an exterior bearing wall with a more commonly framed interior wall that is being used on a current project. We will discuss the pros and cons of each system and focus on framing differences, air sealing, and moisture control. We will also cover differences in the insulating process, code issues, extra costs for the customer, and long-term energy savings.
